Boskalis has launched its new trailing suction hopper dredger Seaway at Royal IHC’s yard in Krimpen aan den IJssel, the Netherlands, following a christening ceremony on October 3, 2025.

The vessel was christened by Mrs. Ande Berdowski, spouse of the chairman of Boskalis’ supervisory board.

The Seaway is a large-capacity trailing suction hopper dredger with a 31,000 m³ hopper and a full diesel-electric installation with Azipods™ propulsion.

The vessel is methanol-ready, equipped with onboard plant and storage, and its dual-fuel engines can operate on conventional fuels as well as on biodiesel and methanol. It features a double suction pipe with underwater pumps and two discharge pumps, providing a combined discharge capacity of 15,000 kW for long-distance pump-ashore operations. Delivery and entry into service are planned for mid-2026.

The launch concludes a program that started with the contract signing in October 2023 and the first steel cutting in January 2024.

Royal IHC CEO Derk te Bokkel described the launch as “a truly special occasion… the result of dedication, ingenuity, and above all, collaboration.”
