G. Vallis: “No One Alone – The Soul of the Coast Guard is Our Strength” — With these words, the President of P.E.P.I.E.TH., Cpt. Dr. Georgios Vallis, addresses a moving appeal for immediate help to a member of the Coast Guard Corps who is facing serious health problems.

A particularly humane and institutionally substantial intervention was made by the President of the Panhellenic Union of Private and Professional Yacht Crews (P.E.P.I.E.TH.), Cpt. Dr. Georgios Vallis, with a letter he sent to the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Mr. Vasilis Kikilias and the Head of the Coast Guard Corps – Hellenic Coast Guard Mr. Kontizas.

The letter concerns the urgent need to support a Coast Guard employee, who is facing serious health problems and has not received the necessary institutional support from the competent services to date. This case highlights the duty of the State to stand practically by the people who serve in crucial positions of responsibility, especially when they are faced with critical personal trials.

As Cpt. Dr. Georgios Vallis states in his letter, this specific coast guard member contacted P.E.P.I.E.TH. through the Church of the Coast Guard Corps, asking for help. The Union responded immediately, covering part of his financial obligations and offering support for the medical care he needs. However, as it is pointed out, the state must assume its institutional role. It is not possible for the coverage of the basic needs of workers to be left solely to the goodwill of individuals or associations. Human life and health must be placed above all and protected by the state in a structured and institutional manner.

The letter addresses a clear request to Minister Mr. Kikilias and Head Mr. Kontizas for immediate mobilization, so that solutions can be found that will ensure decent living conditions for the coast guard employee, full medical care and institutional protection, as well as a permanent support mechanism for similar cases in the future. This intervention is part of a broader framework of raising awareness about the problems of the members of the Coast Guard Corps, who are daily on the front line of protecting the maritime borders and human life at sea.

The President of the Union appeals for collective sensitivity and unity, emphasizing that no worker should feel alone in the face of serious health problems or social difficulties. With words that are moving but also decisive, he states that it is everyone’s duty to show practical solidarity and to ensure that the state truly stands by its people.

The letter concludes with a message of institutional cooperation and humanitarian sensitivity, asking for an immediate response from the leadership of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Coast Guard Corps: “In a difficult moment, let us all unite for the good of our fellow human being,” Cpt. Dr. Vallis characteristically points out.

This action is a reminder that the human dimension of administration is an integral part of the public mission. Institutional intervention with humanitarian content is not only an act of sensitivity, but also an expression of leadership with values. In a time when social solidarity is being tested, such initiatives show the way towards a state that truly cares, collaborates and protects its people.
