COSCO Shipping Ports has finalized the acquisition of an equity stake in two of the largest terminals at the port of Laem Chabang, in Thailand.

These are the Thai Laem Chabang Terminal and the Hutchison Laem Chabang Terminal, both majority-controlled by the Hucthinson Group, and in which the Chinese giant has acquired 12.5% and 30% of the shares, respectively.

The port of Laem Chabang ranks 20th in the Lloyd’s List ranking of the top 100 container ports in the world. In 2024, it handled 9.6 million TEUs, an increase of 7.7% year-on-year.

The operation, first announced last year but completed last month, represents a further step forward in the continuous expansion of the Cosco Shipping Ports division in Southeast Asia.
