Puertos de Talcahuano awarded the consultancy Calibra a study to develop the Comprehensive Traffic Management Plan. The initiative will cost 150 million pesos, will last 12 months and its objective is to identify and analyze the urban problems derived from port logistics activity, focusing on its effects on mobility, accessibility and road safety.

“The plan will contribute to the sustainable development of the commune. It will provide us with a detailed diagnosis that will serve as a basis for formulating policies and strategies that promote a more harmonious integration between port development and the mobility and quality of life needs of the neighbors,” explained the General Manager of Puertos de Talcahuano, Cristian Wulf.

“This study is complemented by other tools to support territorial planning, such as the Ciudad Portuaria digital platform, which we created together with City Lab Biobío, and which help us generate a joint vision of the Talcahuano we want to build with our stakeholder groups,” he added.

To improve the conditions of comprehensive mobility in the heart of Talcahuano, the study sets various specific objectives. Among them, to carry out operational and physical cadasters of the transport system and the activity system in the analysis area (covering road infrastructure, management elements, urban and tourist aspects), to apply a freight trip origin and destination survey, to create a mobility and transport diagnosis, to generate a portfolio of mobility projects and to promote multisectoral participation (public sector, private sector and communities) in different stages of the survey.

“The solutions proposed in this study will be presented through investment initiatives that allow optimizing the use of existing road infrastructure, thus improving the operational conditions of the different modes of transport. In this way, local and regional authorities will have a portfolio composed of projects that require specific technical reports and others that require designs on a planimetry,” emphasized the Manager of Development and Sustainability of the state company, Guacolda Vargas.
