Rome – A woman is once again at the helm of the Confitarma Young Shipowners Group. Marialaura Dell’Abate is the new president who, during the assembly on October 8th, took over from Salvatore d’Amico and will lead the Young Shipowners for the 2025-2026 biennium. “Young shipowners must be protagonists of change, combining innovation, responsibility and continuity,” said Dell’Abate during the assembly that marked the handover.
The strengthening of international relations and the launch of missions abroad, the enhancement and protection of the welfare of maritime workers are among the priority themes of the program, together with attention to the challenges of decarbonization, digitalization and artificial intelligence. All this is set within the framework of analyzing the new geopolitical and market dynamics that world shipping must contend with.
Salvatore d’Amico recalled the initiatives promoted during his years of leadership, from international missions and institutional meetings with the Navy and the Harbour Masters’ Corps – Coast Guard, to the issue of ship safety, and on to projects to raise awareness of maritime professions and the training of young people. A particular point concerned the role of seafarers, for whom “protection, dignity and the full exercise of civil rights, including the right to vote,” must be guaranteed. “The president of the Young Shipowners Group does not represent only himself, but an entire generation of shipowners who believe in the future, in the sea and in the value of common commitment.”
Supporting Marialaura Dell’Abate will be the vice presidents Chiara De Angelis, Andrea Cavo and Lorenzo d’Amico. Completing the board of directors are the councilors: Andrea Poliseno, Giovanni Filippi, Giulia Palazzeschi, Nicolò Iguera, Alessandro Morace, Benedetta Pacella Grimaldi and Alessandro Nava. Angela Genovese also joins the Group, which marks an expansion of its representation.
