Three months after announcing orders for four 3,100 TEU container ships from the Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard (ZCIS), Costamare revealed this week new orders for two more vessels of the same class.

“In its third-quarter report, published on November 4, Costamare Inc, a company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, indicated that it used a Chinese shipyard for the construction of two new 3,100 TEU ships. This decision is backed by eight-year charter contracts with a major liner shipping company,” according to Alphaliner.

“Although Costamare did not explicitly mention ZCIS, it seems reasonable to assume that it has returned to the same shipyard to build ships of the same design,” it added.

According to Alphaliner, the first four ships from the order have been assigned to Ocean Network Express (ONE) and the Japanese shipping company based in Singapore could also be the charterer of units five and six. However, this has not yet been confirmed.

Between 2021 and 2024, ZCIS already delivered eight 3,158 TEU ships of the German CV Ruby 3100 design to Sea Consortium (6 units) and to Log-In Logistica (2 ships). With a length of 199 meters and a beam of 35.2 meters (14 rows), these vessels are derived from a lengthened design of the Chittagongmax, known as CV Ruby 2700.
