The Port of Qingdao, located in China’s Shandong province, completed the shipment of four new passenger trains destined for Chile.

The electric units were loaded aboard a vessel from the maritime company G2 Ocean, the same shipping company responsible for other previous shipments for the Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado (EFE).

According to the state-owned company, the railcars will be incorporated into the fleet of the Biotren service that connects eight communes of Gran Concepción in the Región del Bio Bio.

The railway equipment corresponds to the SFE-100 model, characterized by having space to transport up to 717 passengers and reaching a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour. The trainsets were built by the Chinese company CRRC, a manufacturer that was also responsible for building the 11 formations that currently run on the railways of the southern city.

This shipment of trains adds to another that arrived in the country last September, when the DP World terminal at the Port of San Antonio unloaded five units for the fleet of the Limache – Puerto service, operated by EFE Valparaíso. This incorporation will increase the transport capacity of the port city’s railway network by 20%.
