The US classification society American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) wants to expand its commitment to risk management and cyber security by acquiring the service provider RMC Global.

The acquisition of the US-based service provider by ABS subsidiary ABSG Consulting is intended to strengthen ABS Consulting’s capabilities and market position “by bringing together two organizations with complementary expertise, shared values and a common mission.” The combination of RMC’s capabilities with ABS Consulting’s scale, technical depth and global resources will enable the development of even more integrated solutions for clients operating in increasingly complex risk environments, it said.

John McDonald, Chairman and CEO of ABS, said: “Our clients face growing operational risks, cyber threats and regulatory pressures. The acquisition is an ideal fit both strategically and culturally.

RMC describes itself as a leading provider of industrial cybersecurity, risk management and resilience solutions for critical infrastructure and critical missions. “Committed to ensuring national security and resilience, RMC works in partnership with government and private sector organizations to address evolving threats and vulnerabilities,” according to an official description.

David Wechsler, CEO of ABS Consulting, said: “This acquisition builds on priority areas where we see continued client demand and long-term growth opportunities. The combination strengthens our ability to support our clients in the face of evolving operational risks, cyber threats and regulatory requirements, while providing us with a broader platform to deliver increasingly innovative solutions.”
