Honorary speaker was Mrs. Maria Efthymiou, historian and Professor Emeritus of History at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).
Mrs. Efthymiou presented a two-hour lecture on the course of global shipping over the last 4,000 years, highlighting the role of the sea peoples and the timeless contribution of Greeks to the sector.
It is worth noting that the event was opened by the President of the Piraeus Maritime Club, Mr. Paris K. Xanalatos, while a special video on life on commercial ocean-going vessels, which is also used in Greek schools, was shown beforehand.
Institutional bodies and representatives of Greek shipping were present at the event.
