China Council for the Promotion of International Trade: Global Economic and Trade Friction Index Remained High in September

Beijing, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) — According to the latest data released by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) on the 27th, the global economic and trade friction index for September was 106, remaining at a high level. The value involved in global economic and trade friction measures increased by 7.9% year-on-year but decreased by 15.6% month-on-month.

In terms of country-specific indices, among the 20 countries (regions) under monitoring, India, the United States, and Russia had the top three global economic and trade friction indices. The value involved in the United States’ global economic and trade friction measures has ranked first for 15 consecutive months.

Regarding industry indices, among the 13 major industries under monitoring, the conflict points of economic and trade friction measures focused on the electronics, transportation equipment, pharmaceuticals, machinery equipment, and chemical industries. The economic and trade friction index for the electronics industry ranked first.

Looking at sub-indices, the trade remedy measures index ranked first among the five sub-measure indices. Yang Fan, spokesperson for the CCPIT, stated that traditional trade remedy investigations have once again become a tool for countries to protect their domestic industries and enhance industrial competitiveness.

Regarding China-related economic and trade frictions, the China-related economic and trade friction index for 19 countries (regions) was 115, still at a high level. Among them, India had the highest China-related economic and trade friction index, with sectors such as semiconductors, batteries, and copper cables showing high China-related economic and trade friction indices. In that month, the value involved in China-related economic and trade friction measures by these 19 countries (regions) decreased by 36.6% year-on-year but increased by 9.6% month-on-month. (End)
