On January 20, reporters learned from the Hubei Provincial Department of Transportation that Hubei ports completed a cargo throughput of 808 million tons in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 7.3%, setting a new historical record.
In 2025, the number of major ports in Hubei with cargo throughput exceeding 100 million tons surpassed five. Among them, Jingzhou Port’s cargo throughput exceeded 100 million tons for the first time, reaching 101 million tons, successfully entering the ranks of national inland river ports with 100-million-ton throughput. Huanggang Port’s cargo throughput reached 214 million tons, becoming the first port in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River to exceed 200 million tons in cargo throughput. The other three ports in Hubei with cargo throughput exceeding 100 million tons are Wuhan Port (147 million tons), Yichang Port (156 million tons), and Huangshi Port (125 million tons).
It is reported that since the Hubei Provincial Committee proposed accelerating the building of “Hubei on Water Transport” in 2025, the Hubei Provincial Department of Transportation has accelerated the enhancement of port hub capacity, optimized the functional layout of the “Five Major and Ten Key” ports, and accelerated the construction of Wuhan International Container Hub Port, Huangshi Bulk Cargo Intermodal Port, Yichang Three Gorges Transshipment Port, Jingzhou Coal Transshipment Port, and Xiangyang Hanjiang Logistics Hub Port, forming a port pattern with complementary functions and coordinated development. By the end of 2025, Hubei had accumulated 224 water transport routes, with 23 new routes opened in 2025. The pattern of accelerating high-level opening-up with ports as nodes to build an inland open highland has basically taken shape, providing a strong guarantee for Hubei to accelerate its development as an important strategic pivot for the rise of the central region.
