The Danish-German Gemini container ship alliance between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd has decided that the alliance’s ME11 route between India, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean will, from the middle of the month, pass through the Red Sea. The passage will occur under fleet protection.
The first westbound departure will be with the Albert Mærsk, and the first eastbound departure with the Astrid Mærsk.
EU NAVFOR Operation Aspides will be responsible for the fleet protection. Denmark is currently not contributing to the naval force, but Germany is.
The alliance’s two major routes to Asia, AE12 and AE15, will – for now – continue to sail south of Africa.
