The port is an economic unit which, in order to achieve its broader economic goals in a globalized and competitive environment, must ensure the smooth operation of facilities, the optimal utilization of mechanical equipment, and the productivity of human resources.
There are several criteria based on which ports can be distinguished. Among these criteria are the functional ones. That is, depending on their purpose and function, ports are distinguished into the following categories:
