Turkmenistan has commissioned the 6,100-dwt dry cargo ship Gadamly, the country’s first domestically built vessel of the type, at Turkmenbashi International Seaport, according to Turkmenistan’s state news agency TDH.
The 240-TEU vessel was built at the Balkan Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Yard in Turkmenbashi under project MPC 6.1k.
Balkan Shipyard lists Gadamly with IMO number 1061154, length of 123 metres, beam of 16.5 metres, draught of 4.73 metres and deadweight of 6,100 tonnes. The vessel is classed by Bureau Veritas.
The project was carried out by Turkmen specialists with Korean partners. Choi Yong Wook, president of South Korea’s Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology, attended the ceremony and presented certificates to Balkan Shipyard for engineering development and installation work.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said a second vessel of the same class, Menzil, is expected to be commissioned this year with Korean partners. Officials said the ships are intended to add capacity to Turkmenistan’s merchant fleet and support cargo flows through Turkmenbashi International Seaport and Caspian routes.
Balkan Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Yard is an open joint-stock company based in Turkmenbashi, Balkan velayat. The yard, launched in 2018, provides shipbuilding, ship and drilling platform repair, container repair, metal processing, engineering and related services.
