Cemre Shipyard will complete the outfitting, testing, commissioning, and sea trials for the new vessel prior to delivery to Scotland’s Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd this year
Scotland’s Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) reported on 2 May the launch of Claymore, the last in a series of four ferries to be built at Cemre Shipyard in Yalova, Turkey.
Following launch, the Turkish shipyard will complete the vessel’s outfitting and system installation while afloat, ahead of sea trials and delivery preparations this year.
Claymore, along with sister vessel Lochmor, will provide a two-vessel service to the routes between Uig on Skye, Tarbert (Harris), and Lochmaddy (North Uist). Part of the Little Minch ferries project, each of the 6,120-gt ferries can accommodate 450 passengers and 100 cars, or 14 commercial vehicles.
China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) has selected LMG Marin and navalue GmbH to design a methanol dual-fuel battery-hybrid ropax vessel for Scotland’s NorthLink Ferries.
The two 140-m Freight Flex Ropax will replace the current vessels Helliar and Hildasay on the Aberdeen–Kirkwall–Lerwick routes. Operated by Serco NorthLink Ferries, the new vessels will offer extra freight capacity and enable quicker crossings on the routes, as well as capacity for 200 passengers to travel during peak periods.
As Passenger Ship Technology reported, GSI was selected by CMAL to build the ropax vessels in March.
