Maersk and Guangzhou Port Group Sign Port-Shipping Cooperation Memorandum

On the afternoon of June 22, Guangzhou Port Group and Maersk signed a port-shipping cooperation memorandum at the Port Center, further deepening cooperation on the Nansha international shipping logistics hub and promoting the construction of the Guangzhou international shipping hub and the world-class port cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to a new level. Maersk Executive Vice President Keith Svendsen, Guangzhou Port Group Chairman Huang Bo, and General Manager Wu Chao attended and witnessed the signing.

According to the memorandum, both parties will leverage their resource advantages to further deepen multi-field cooperation, jointly provide customers with more competitive integrated logistics solutions, and inject new strong momentum into the high-quality development of Guangzhou’s port and shipping industry.

Before the signing, Guangzhou Mayor Sun Zhiyang and Vice Mayor Lai Zhihong met with Keith Svendsen. Svendsen and his delegation also visited the Guangzhou Port Group corporate culture exhibition hall and held discussions with Guangzhou Port Group.

Svendsen expressed gratitude for Guangzhou Port Group’s continued support. He stated that Maersk has always adhered to a customer-centric approach, continuously optimizing shipping services in recent years, improving liner schedule reliability, exploring the application of low-emission energy in logistics networks, and vigorously expanding integrated logistics services. Maersk highly values its partnership with Guangzhou Port Group and is willing to further deepen exchanges in business linkage, emerging market exploration, and smart port and shipping construction based on existing cooperation achievements, jointly addressing the complex and changing international trade situation and advancing cooperation to a higher level. Svendsen pointed out that the Nansha port area has prominent geographical advantages, a solid development foundation, and broad development space, possessing the potential to become one of the important international container transshipment hub ports in the Asia-Pacific region. Maersk will fully leverage Guangzhou Port’s geographical advantages, hinterland economic vitality, and policy innovation dividends, combined with the capacity construction progress of the Nansha port area, to enhance services in areas such as shipping network, cargo sourcing, and multimodal transport, and make every effort to prioritize the call of container liner routes at the Nansha port area where commercially and operationally feasible, promoting the coordinated development of Maersk’s business and Nansha port area’s international business. In the future, Maersk is willing to join hands with Guangzhou Port Group to build efficient, resilient, and sustainable international supply chain channels, demonstrating long-term confidence in Guangzhou’s status as an international shipping hub through concrete actions.

Huang Bo warmly welcomed Svendsen and his delegation. He stated that Guangzhou Port Group and Maersk have a deep history of cooperation, closely following market demands over the years, continuously deepening the port-shipping linkage mechanism, with increasingly prominent cooperation results. Currently, Guangzhou Port Group is anchoring its “hub + corridor + network” strategy, fully strengthening the port hub function. It is expected that by the end of the “15th Five-Year Plan,” the container throughput capacity of the Nansha port area will exceed 30 million TEUs, providing solid and strong port capacity guarantees for Maersk’s shipping and comprehensive business expansion in Guangzhou. At the same time, Guangzhou Port Group is leveraging “supply chain element integration” as a driver, gathering the forces of ports, shipping, routes, and enterprises to accelerate the construction of a land-sea corridor system with Guangzhou Port as the hub, effectively connecting key nodes such as the Hunan Zhuzhou comprehensive logistics distribution center and inland ports and offices within the Pan-Pearl River Delta region, continuously weaving a dense end-to-end logistics service network. Further deepening cooperation between the two parties in the port-shipping supply chain field will help fully integrate the resource advantages of both sides, support Maersk in leveraging the comprehensive resource advantages and efficient and reliable port services of the Nansha port area to continuously optimize its shipping network layout in the Nansha port area, jointly provide customers with more competitive integrated logistics solutions, promote the leap in the capability level of the Guangzhou international shipping hub, and inject strong momentum into the high-quality development of Guangzhou’s port and shipping industry.

This signing marks a new stage in the cooperation between the two parties in the port-shipping supply chain field, further strengthening the status of the Nansha international shipping logistics hub and continuously empowering the high-quality development of the world-class port cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
