The Rhenus Group and Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers Co., Ltd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to initiate a strategic partnership at Rhenus Cuxport in Cuxhaven, Germany. The agreement aims to integrate Rhenus’s port expertise with the maritime capabilities of Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers, which has a fleet of over 200 specialized vessels, in order to improve supply chain solutions and strengthen digital integration between port and maritime operations.
The two companies will offer customers smooth and integrated transport services and develop comprehensive logistics solutions at the Cuxhaven terminal, covering breakbulk, automotive, heavy lift and special cargoes, including shipments on semi-submersible vessels and end-to-end distribution.
As part of the partnership, Rhenus will contribute its terminals, warehouses, inbound and outbound rail connections, shuttle feeder routes via barge and transport fleets at Cuxhaven. Thanks to an integrated infrastructure, national and international connections and its role as a key hub in Germany for multipurpose and project logistics, the site offers ideal conditions for business development. Furthermore, the close collaboration between Rhenus and Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers will enable Rhenus Project Logistics to propose new integrated logistics solutions, responding to increasingly complex customer needs along the European North Range.
“Our strategic partnership with Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers Co., Ltd is based on a common goal: to respond to customer needs with even greater speed and precision in the future. By combining our expertise in project cargo, heavy lifts and specialized transport solutions with our partner’s highly diversified fleet, we will sustainably expand terminal connections and capacities in the long term,” said Andreas Stöckli, Member of the Management Board of the Rhenus Group.
In line with market needs and operational feasibility, Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers Co., Ltd, leveraging its established experience in specialized cargo transport and related services, will continue to develop and expand its logistics network in Europe based on the existing infrastructure of the Rhenus Group. The company will thus contribute to expanding and diversifying the offering of routes and capacity at the Cuxhaven site.
Zhang Wei, Chairman of Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers Co., Ltd, emphasized that Europe has always been one of the most important strategic markets for the company. In recent years, the company has steadily strengthened its global network and key trade corridors, further expanding service coverage in Northwest Europe, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea area, in addition to optimizing its liner services. In the future, Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers will continue to leverage the advantages of its specialized fleet and global network to develop more efficient, reliable and resilient logistics corridors and supply chains, creating added value for customers globally.
