Veglia (Krk) – After 55 days spent in a Turkish shipyard for the work necessary to increase its capacity, the LNG Croatia regasification vessel has returned to Veglia (Krk), where it will resume its activities on October 26 at the Castelmuschio (Omišalj) base, in the northern part of the Croatian island. A new regasification module has been installed on the FSRU, which will now be subjected to all the tests necessary to put the plant into operation.

The upgrade of the LNG Croatia – whose capacity has increased from 3.1 to 6.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas – took place at the Kuzey Star shipyard, where the vessel’s five-year class was also renewed. The 51 million euros invested are partly the result of European funding: 25 million come from the PNRR.

The Veglia terminal has been in operation since January 2021 and supplies natural gas to the Croatian national network, which is in turn connected with Slovenia and Hungary. To date, 126 LNG carriers have been served, for a total of 17.7 million cubic meters of LNG, equal to 10.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Now LNG Croatia will resume its activities, with the aim of becoming an increasingly important point of reference for the energy supply of the countries in the area, through a 216-kilometer pipeline network that will be built by 2026 as part of a project worth over half a billion, entirely supported by PNRR funds. In a first phase, however, the capacity increase will only be nominal and will be used progressively, in parallel with the development of the transport network. For next year, the increase will be 0.7 billion cubic meters per year, more than half of which is already booked.
