The Port Authority of Almería opens the direct access from the N-340 to the port of Almería, thus fulfilling one of the commitments made by the current president, Rosario Soto, who did not want to miss this event alongside the city’s mayor, María del Mar Vázquez. A priority action for the commercial growth of the port of Almería, which also includes the internal reorganization of the port’s roadways and a new exit from the port to the city via the Vía Parque, bypassing the Pescadería neighborhood roundabout and allowing for the diversification and increase of freight traffic volume, as well as a turning point to decongest one of the main entrances to the city from the A7 motorway.

Regarding the direct impact on the city of Almería, the president of the Port Authority has highlighted that diverting heavy traffic before the Pescadería neighborhood roundabout means removing a significant volume of trucks from this roundabout that “will no longer create a bottleneck in the roundabout, affecting the entry of vehicles into the city,” stated Rosario Soto. The president also referred to the positive visual impact of the intervention on the entrance to Almería from the west, due to the removal of 200 meters of fence that separated the port and the city.

“I thank the Port Authority for its effort to continue promoting works and for advancing in port-city integration, making this interaction an increasingly tangible reality,” said the mayor of Almería, María del Mar Vázquez, during her speech. The action involved the construction of an access road from the N-340 to the port, which extends for about 270 meters; also the remodeling of two roundabouts within the port area: one located at the entrance, which has gained capacity for special oversized cargo, and the internal one, both of which are passable by vehicles.
