The National Agency for Ports and Navigation (Anpyn) of Argentina received five bids in the public tender process for the replacement of the fender system of the Port of Ushuaia, whose works will begin in the coming weeks. The project is part of the structural works plan that will modernize the infrastructure of the port terminal.

The procedure aims at the removal of the installed equipment and the supply, placement and calibration of 75 new fenders, central elements in the berthing safety of merchant ships and cruise ships. The specifications also include the repair of concrete beams and headers in the berthing front sectors for the development of mooring maneuvers.

To guarantee operational continuity, the work schedule will avoid the simultaneous dismantling of adjacent fenders, always maintaining berth availability. This planning ensures that the replacement does not generate complications for the operation of the terminal, allowing the next cruise season to proceed normally.

The works will be financed with own resources, derived from the port’s operations, generated by the efficient use of resources and a staff contingent representing 10% of that used by the previous port administration.

The fender replacement is part of the port’s Comprehensive Works Plan, whose next step will be the complete repair and renewal of the terminal’s critical service systems. This intervention covers the modernization of the electrical network and the water supply system.

The initiative also includes comprehensive repair tasks at berths 1, 2, 3 and 5 of the port terminal. These works include the reconstruction and jacketing of piles to remedy physical wear, restore structural load capacity and guarantee optimal safety conditions for the mooring of commercial vessels during the cruise season.
