Assiterminal (Italian Association of Port Terminal Operators) has just turned 25 years old. It was indeed on January 31, 2001 when it was founded in Genoa by the founding members Ignazio Messina (Ignazio Messina Spa), Volker Trimpop (Trimpop Europa SpA GE), Gianluca Lantelme (Consolidamento Merci SpA GE), Luigi Carlucci (Terminal Sanità SpA GE), Franco Villa (Pra container terminal), Vincenzo Valle (VE bulk terminal) and Marcello Mantovani (European Terminal Industries VE).

A note recalls that the association, born to give a voice to the newly created categories (in fact created following law 84 of 1994) of port terminal operators and port companies, had Luigi Negri as its first president; in the following years the membership, initially composed of companies operating in the ports of Genoa, Savona, Venice, Cagliari, grew with new memberships from other terminal operators and port companies.

Over time, the presidency was held successively by Cirillo Orlandi, Alessandro Giannini, Marco Conforti, Luca Becce, up to the current presidency of Tomaso Cognolato. In 2005 Assiterminal became a stipulating party to the National Collective Labor Agreement for port workers, establishing itself over time as a reference point for port cluster associations until today, 25 years later, with over 100 associated port companies.

Recently the Board of Directors has initiated, by establishing the Nomination Committee, consultations among the members to identify the president for the next two-year period 2026 – 2028, convening the electoral assembly for May 11th, during which the new Board of Directors will also be voted on.

“On May 12th in Rome, at the Temple of Hadrian, the public assembly of Assiterminal will take place, an appointment during which the 25th anniversary will be celebrated, together with the founding members, past presidents, associations, institutions and partners who have shared this journey always seeking to affirm an open and inclusive vision for the future” concludes the note. “The assembly will obviously focus on the most relevant aspects of the port logistics scenario, the ongoing transitions and a central moment, in partnership with Cultura Italiae, on logistically disruptive topics”.
