Antofagasta Terminal Internacional (ATI) successfully completed the installation of 100% solar lighting in its various operational areas, reaffirming -according to the company- its commitment to sustainability and workplace safety.
The project arose to resolve deficiencies in the lighting of pedestrian crossings and operational zones that posed a risk to personnel and compromised overall safety. To address this, ATI installed 98 solar poles at strategic points in the terminal, with a total investment of 117 million pesos.
“This project reflects our forward-looking vision, which aims to safeguard people’s safety with sustainable solutions. With these solar lights, we not only comply with regulations in our operations but also reduce our environmental impact and reinforce our commitment to the city and the country,” emphasized ATI’s Operations Manager, Alex Muñoz.
The measure allowed compliance with the provisions of the Light Decree DS1, which regulates light pollution in northern Chile to protect astronomical zones. In turn, it contributed to optimizing the security of the port facilities by utilizing a clean energy source, reducing electricity consumption and the carbon footprint.
The lights were distributed in key sectors such as Interzona, Site No. 4 pedestrian crossing, Embarcadero pedestrian walkway, Pergola Visit Sector pedestrian walkway, Site No. 6 Curve, and Site No. 7 Toril Wall, improving visibility and safety in critical transit and operational areas.
