Avanza recovery of railway line after freight train accident in Chiguayante

EFE Sur reported that during the early morning, the work to clear the cars involved in the derailment of a freight train that occurred last Saturday, May 9, near the Chiguayante station was completed, a task carried out by the company Fepasa, owner of the affected rolling stock.

“After this, EFE technical teams immediately entered the sector to begin the restoration and enabling work of the affected railway infrastructure, work that is progressing according to the schedule defined for the recovery of service operability,” the state-owned company communicated.

“The company projects that during this Tuesday (May 12) the operation of passenger trains on one track may resume, allowing a gradual progress towards the normalization of the railway service, with complementary work on the remaining tracks that must be done at night for operational safety reasons,” it added.

Meanwhile, the general manager of EFE Sur, Nelson Hernández Roldán, stated that “the work has been carried out according to the established planning, allowing progress towards the recovery of the infrastructure and the operational enabling of the track safely starting tomorrow.”

In parallel, EFE Sur reported that it maintains a contingency plan for users of Biotren Line 1 and Corto Laja, through shuttle bus services between Pedro Medina station and Concepción.

The company reported that the operational plan was carried out as planned and will continue to be implemented throughout the day on Monday, May 11, in coordination with and important support from the Seremi of Transport and Telecommunications and local and regional authorities.

Regarding the investigations of the railway incident, the Railway Accident Investigation Unit (UIAF) continues to carry out the corresponding procedures and during the current day the release of the preliminary report on the causes of the accident is expected.

The derailment of the freight train in the vicinity of the Chiguayante station occurred after five in the morning on Saturday the 9th, when a convoy of the company Fepasa, which was transporting cellulose to a regional port, suffered the derailment of nine of its cars. No injuries were reported.
