Confirmed by British defense group BAE Systems, on May 9, an accident occurred at the group’s Jacksonville Ship Repair facility, where a shipyard worker was performing maintenance on heavy machinery, resulting in a fatality.
A BAE Systems spokesperson stated that at the time of the incident, the deceased worker was performing maintenance on a Self-Propelled Modular Transporter (SPMT) when the fatal accident occurred.
The SPMT is a type of heavy engineering equipment primarily used to transport ships from near-water areas to inland facilities within the shipyard.
Currently, BAE Systems is investigating the cause of the accident.
