The Board of Directors of the Port de Barcelona has definitively approved the concession of a new automobile terminal to Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK). The Japanese shipping company, one of the most important in the world and with the second largest fleet of ships dedicated to automobile transport, won the tender for the concession of what will be the third terminal dedicated to vehicle traffic in the Port de Barcelona, which was approved at the Board of Directors meeting held last April. This was the final procedure before beginning the construction works for the new terminal, which will start in the coming months.

NYK will invest 75 million euros in the construction of the new terminal, which is public in nature, will occupy 101,058 m2 at the Príncep d’Espanya wharf and will reinforce the Port de Barcelona as an international hub for the automotive sector. The concession for the new automobile terminal, which will be operational at the beginning of 2027, has a term of 27 years.

The restaurant, located on the first floor of the Lonja de Pescadores building, will occupy a 292.66 m2 premises, with an adjacent covered terrace of 80.21 m2. The concession term is 20 years.

Grupo Restauración Aventura SL, which manages the Cobre, Thonet and Vraba restaurants -located at the d’Espanya wharf- has presented a gastronomic proposal, created by chef Albert Ventura, based on seafood products from local fishermen who use sustainable gear and responsible fishing, with a dynamic menu that will depend on the daily fish market auction. The Lonja de Pescadores restaurant will prioritize the quality of local products with a menu aimed at the local customer.

Retirement of Santiago Garcia-Milà

Likewise, the Board of Directors of the Port de Barcelona has approved the reorganization of the structure of the Autoridad Portuaria de Barcelona and the creation of the Strategy and Corporate Management area with the aim of continuing to maintain the strategic vision and reinforce the leadership of the major strategic projects.

These changes are being made due to the forthcoming retirement of the current Deputy General Manager and Head of Innovation and Business Strategy of the Port of Barcelona, Santiago Garcia-Milà.

The Corporate Strategy and Management area will involve the creation of the Strategy Committee, a new cross-functional body in which the presidency, management, and deputy general managements of the Port will participate, and which will be responsible for defining its vision and mission, setting strategic objectives (growth, innovation, sustainability), establishing priorities, making key decisions on investments and business models, and ensuring the communication of these points to the organization and to the stakeholders of the Port of Barcelona.

The new Corporate Strategy and Management area will be integrated into the Deputy General Management of Economics and Finance, which will be renamed the DG of Economic-Financial, Corporate Strategy and Management and will assume all functions related to the strategy of the Port of Barcelona (collection and assessment of strategic proposals, development and monitoring of the Strategic Plan, project management, etc.) and corporate management and support for companies owned by the Port of Barcelona.

On the other hand, the tasks of the former Innovation and Business Strategy department related to international relations are integrated into the Institutional Relations Department; the commercial functions are integrated into the Commercial and Marketing department, and the Innovation and Blue Economy functions are assigned to the Organization and Internal Resources department.
