The “Innovative Floating Seawater Treatment Platform,” implemented by the Bodrum Municipality Directorate of Climate Change and Zero Waste in collaboration with Blue Hybrid Solutions, was introduced.

This system, applied for the first time in Turkey and the world, aims to save 7,000 tons of water annually and reduce carbon emissions by 500 tons while producing 20 tons of clean utility water daily.

The eco-friendly floating platform, placed in front of Bitez Harbor, treats seawater to produce 20 tons of clean utility water daily. The platform’s energy needs are fully met by solar panels and 2 wind turbines. The treated water is transferred via a food-grade hose to a 20-ton storage tank on land. The stored water will be used for park and median irrigation, emergencies, and public use when needed. As an innovative step in sustainable water management, this project will not only produce utility water but also reduce annual carbon emissions by approximately 500 tons and save 7,000 tons of water. By implementing adaptive and innovative projects to ensure citizens’ equal and uninterrupted access to water, the Bodrum Municipality sets an example not only locally but also nationally for renewable energy and water management practices through these investments.

Bodrum Mayor Tamer Mandalinci, stating that drought, rising temperatures, humid air, and forest fires in the region have reduced people’s access to water day by day, and that local governments are part of the solution to this problem, said: “Both the Bodrum Municipality and the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality continue their dedicated efforts to be part of the solution, not the problem. We deemed it appropriate to implement this system to provide a local solution to the water scarcity our citizens face. Samples taken from all parts of our system, which has been operational for 25 days, show that it works extremely well, efficiently, and without harming nature. I would like to emphasize that the system operates completely independently, powered entirely by renewable energy sources—solar panels and wind energy.”

“Building tomorrow’s Bodrum and tomorrow’s Turkey is everyone’s duty.”

Mayor Mandalinci said, “Building tomorrow’s Bodrum and tomorrow’s Turkey is everyone’s duty. Approaching environmental issues with great sensitivity is our fundamental responsibility. With this vision, this innovation, and this R&D effort, we will build our future together. This platform will best address our future water needs and enable us to meet our clean water demand from the sea using renewable energy.”

Mayor Mandalinci concluded his remarks by stating that representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change will soon take samples and that approval will be sought for the system to officially begin water production and distribute the treated water.

“A first in Turkey and the world.”

Muhammet Çoplan, founding partner of Blue Hybrid Solutions Energy Inc., emphasized that the project is a first in Turkey and the world, saying: “This platform is an eco-friendly, sustainable solution that produces fresh water from seawater using entirely renewable energy. This platform is not just a technology but an innovative approach that draws power from nature to enable sustainable living.”

“Our platform, which we have implemented as the first example in Türkiye and the world, is an example of entrepreneurship that brings to life efforts greater than an idea.”

In her remarks, Ezgi Acer Çetinkaya, Head of Climate Change and Zero Waste at Bodrum Municipality, emphasized that they prioritize the Bodrum ecosystem in their work: “Our platform is not just a technical solution but also a concrete example demonstrating that technologies in harmony with nature are possible. Under the leadership and determination of our Bodrum Mayor, Tamer Mandalinci, we will continue working to protect Bodrum not only as a living space for today but also for tomorrow.”
