Donald Trump announced today that China has agreed to purchase approximately 200 “large” aircraft from the manufacturer Boeing, whose stock recorded a drop of over 5%, because the market was expecting a much larger order.
“One of the things that he (the Chinese president) accepted is to buy 200 aircraft (…). Boeing. 200 large ones,” the American president said, according to an excerpt from an interview he granted to the Fox News television network after his meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Beijing.
“I believe it is a commitment,” he added, without going into details, particularly regarding the models covered by the order.
American media have been reporting for months on a potential record order from Beijing involving approximately 500 aircraft of the 737 MAX type and approximately 100 “jumbo” planes (787 Dreamliner and 777).
The head of the aircraft manufacturer, Kelly Ortberg, is participating in the mission of top executives of American businesses accompanying Donald Trump on his trip to China.
“I believe we will see large orders for Boeing,” US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said earlier on the CNBC television network.
Around 19:55 Greek time, Boeing’s stock recorded a drop of 3.98% on the New York Stock Exchange, following a drop of over 5% when the interview excerpt became known.
