Orders for 28 container ships, 6 tankers, 4 gas carriers and 2 bulk carriers for an estimated value of 3.6 billion dollars
Brussels – In the last week, the new shipbuilding market has seen a surge in orders, particularly in the container ship segment, which represents about 70% of the total. Overall, 40 new ships have been ordered, including 28 container ships, for a total estimated value of 3.6 billion dollars.
Among the main orders, the German group Ernst Russ has commissioned two 2,280 teu ships from the China Merchants Jinling shipyard in Nanjing, destined for the ElbFeeder joint venture with the Icelandic Eimskip. The units will be operational from 2028 between Reykjavik, Rotterdam and Teesport. The Chinese company Chenxin Shipping, on the other hand, has signed contracts with Yangzhou Wanlong Shipbuilding for four container ships: two 1,900 teu and two 4,350 teu, all with options for two more ships for each class and deliveries starting from 2027.
In the product tanker sector, the Romanian Constanta Shipyard has received an order for two 41,500 dwt chemical tankers (with options for two more), destined for Histria Shipmanagement, part of the Histria group. Deliveries are expected between 2027 and 2028.
Regarding crude tankers, the South Korean group Hd Hyundai Heavy Industries has signed a contract with an undisclosed owner for the construction of two 158,000 dwt suezmax tankers, with delivery in 2027.
Finally, the Hengli Heavy Industries Dalian shipyard in China has received an order from a Greek owner for two 306,000 dwt VLCCs, with delivery in 2028.
The trend confirms the growing interest in new units in the container and tanker sectors, in line with the global demand for fleet renewal and expansion.
