The Port of Santos recorded its best cargo movement in September and a record for the three-semester period. Statistics from the Santos Port Authority (APS) recorded 16.5 million tons in the month and 138.7 million in the January-September period.
Container movement saw a 6.6% increase in the month, exceeding 515,700 TEU, and also in the year to date with a 7.8% increase compared to 2024, reaching 4.37 million TEU.
“This new record at the Port of Santos, Brazil’s main logistics center, confirms the need to look to the future. APS is working on the expansion of the Polygonal Port, the deepening of the navigation channel, the leasing of Tecon 10, the perimeter roads and the Santos-Guarujá tunnel, among other initiatives,” stated the president of APS, Anderson Pomini.
As a multipurpose port, the largest cargoes moved were sugar (2.85 million tons), corn (2.61 million tons), and soybeans (grain and meal) (2.05 million tons) during the monthly span reviewed.
Only soybeans grew compared to the same month last year (81.6%). Sugar and corn recorded decreases (4.9% and 21%, respectively). The total increase compared to September 2024 was 3.7%.
In the year to date, the increase was 0.9% compared to the first nine months of the previous year. The largest movement was recorded in the soybean sector (a 9.9% increase compared to 2024, totaling 38.82 million tons).
They are followed by sugar (17.09 million, a 17.8% drop), corn (7.6 million, a 14.5% reduction), and fertilizers (5.62 million, a 4.1% drop).
