Pernambuco has advanced in the negotiations to resume the shipment, through the Port of Suape, of the production from the São Francisco Valley, Brazil’s largest fruit exporting region, to the international market, with the signing of a protocol.
The Pact for Agribusiness, an initiative signed between the Suape Industrial Port Complex and the Secretariat of Agrarian Development, Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, with a focus on agribusiness, reached a strategic milestone in the negotiations with the sector.
To this end, a Letter of Intent was signed in Petrolina, in the Sertão region, with leaders from the productive sector of the region, aiming to establish a mutual interest in institutional and technical cooperation, seeking ways to guarantee the export of local production through the Port of Suape. The objective is to jointly debate and resolve the operational challenges of transporting fruit products through the port of Pernambuco.
The signatories of the protocol, in addition to the executive president of Suape, Armando Monteiro Bisneto; and the secretary of Agrarian Development, Cícero Moraes; are the president of the Brazilian Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruits and Derivatives (Abrafrutas), Guilherme Coelho; the president of the Association of Exporters of Fruits, Vegetables and Derivatives of the São Francisco Valley (Valexport), José Gualberto de Almeida (represented by the institutional director, Arthur Grimaldi); and the president of the Union of Rural Producers of Petrolina, Jailson Lira.
The president of Abrafrutas, Guilherme Coelho, indicated that “Suape is receiving a lot of investment from the government of Raquel Lyra, and here in the Valley we are ready and prepared for this port to resume the handling of our fruits. It is fair, dignified, and important because Pernambuco is the state that exports the most fruit in Brazil. It is a moment of great enthusiasm, great commitment, and we are very happy with the visit of the secretary and the general director of Suape to make this announcement.”
The presence of the Pact for Agribusiness in the São Francisco Valley is part of a series of active outreach initiatives, marked by dialogue and transparency. This agenda adds to the continuous work of the Interinstitutional Committee of the Pact for Agribusiness, which has already held strategic meetings with port terminals, the poultry sector, and agribusiness leaders, including the Federation of Agriculture.
