Petros Pappas’s company restarts the investment engine, between new bulk carriers and a possible return to the container market

Athens – Oceanbulk Maritime, the private company led by Petros Pappas, has signed an order for three 82,000 dwt kamsarmax vessels at Hengli Heavy Industries in China, with deliveries expected between the second and fourth quarters of 2027. The shipyard confirmed the series of new units, although the price was not disclosed.

The operation is distinct from the recent acquisitions by the listed subsidiary Star Bulk Carriers, which earlier this month secured three similar kamsarmax vessels through novation agreements for delivery in 2026.

Oceanbulk’s renewed dynamism extends beyond dry bulk: in October, market sources linked the company to an order for two 3,100 teu feeder ships at Zhoushan Changhong, with an estimated value of about 47 million each, with deliveries between late 2027 and early 2028. If confirmed, this would mark a return to the container segment after a seven-year absence.

Today Oceanbulk operates a fleet consisting of five bulk carriers and no container ships. The new orders indicate a gradual expansion of Pappas’s private fleet, in parallel with the development strategies carried out on the public front with Star Bulk.
