The vessel Galileo Galilei, with a tank capacity of 18 thousand m3, arrived in Itapoá. With its arrival, the company Jan De Nul will complete the dredging and coastal expansion works of the city.

The study and project development phases have already been completed and approved, although the start of the works still depends on a final authorization.

In September, land equipment – such as excavators and tractors – were moved to the work site along with all the technical team, starting the preparatory phase related to the assembly of the pipeline on the beach, a necessary step before the start of dredging.

The aforementioned will be responsible for transporting the dredged sand to the coastal strip, allowing the recovery of the shoreline.

The methodology is similar to that used in previous high-impact projects, such as the widening of the beaches of Balneário Camboriú (SC) and Matinhos (PR), which also involved the participation of the Galileo Galilei.

Once the pipeline preparation is finished, in approximately ten days, dredging will begin in the port’s external channel, a stage that will allow the deposition of sand on the coast and the consequent expansion of Itapoá’s beach.
