A fire broke out on a cargo ship in the Black Sea after an attack by a Russian unmanned aircraft that cost the life of at least one person, announced today the deputy prime minister of the Ukrainian government Oleksiy Kuleba, while the Ukrainian Navy for its part spoke of “losses”.

“A strike by an unmanned aircraft caused a fire on a ship with a Panamanian flag. One crew member lost his life: he is a 58-year-old cook of Egyptian nationality,” Kuleba wrote on Telegram, adding that eight sailors were rescued.

The Ukrainian Navy had previously announced that the incident caused “losses” to the cargo ship, the Victress, which was traveling with a nine-member crew, nationals of Egypt, Turkey and India, and can no longer continue its voyage.

According to Oleksiy Kuleba, two other ships were attacked by Russia during the past night, without any injuries.
