Canadian aluminium producers are ramping up deliveries to the United States as domestic prices soar following President Donald Trump’s 50% import tariffs. After initially diverting shipments to Europe, Canadian exports are rebounding amid shrinking US inventories and record Midwest premiums, which surged 250% since January to $1,697 per ton. Canada, which supplies about 70% of U.S. aluminium imports, saw exports fall 22% in early 2025 before recovering in recent months. Analysts say higher US premiums and tightening supply could sustain strong demand for Canadian aluminium in the months ahead.
