At 13:58 on September 30th, the keel laying ceremony for the first two 10,300TEU dual-fuel LNG-powered container ships (CHB2038) built by Changhong International for Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) was successfully completed in the No. 1 dock. This marks the official transition of the construction of this series of vessels into the critical phase of block assembly within the dock, laying a solid foundation for the smooth progress of the subsequent project.
This series of vessels was jointly developed by CIMC ORIC and Changhong International. They represent a new generation of technologically advanced, green, and environmentally friendly ten-thousand-TEU class container ship designs. The ship design utilizes a dual-fuel LNG main engine and generator design, a hybrid high-low pressure gas supply system, and simultaneously meets the most cutting-edge designs for Ammonia Ready and Methanol Ready, highlighting the forward-thinking nature of the design and paving the way for future carbon-neutral shipping.
The hull lines of this ship type are optimized to match the shipowner’s multi-objective operational plans, resulting in excellent performance and core technical features such as high speed and low fuel consumption. It adopts a twin-island layout and is equipped with the largest C-type LNG fuel storage tanks in its class. Whether in LNG mode or fuel oil mode, its endurance can meet the requirements for a single round trip on Europe-China or US-China routes, providing great operational flexibility for the shipowner.
This project comprises a total of 10 vessels. The two vessels that had their keels laid will be classed with DNV. The vessels have an overall length of nearly 300 meters, a breadth of 45.6 meters, and a design speed of 20 knots.
