Must read

On July 25, 2025, the signing ceremony of the cooperation framework agreement between the Wuhan Rules & Research Institute of China Classification Society (CCS) and Shenzhen BYD Lithium Battery Co., Ltd. (referred to as “BYD”) was held in Shenzhen. Liu Dong, Party Committee Secretary of the Wuhan Rules & Research Institute, and Jiang Xinjun, Director of BYD’s New Business Division, attended the signing ceremony. Wei Yingchun, Deputy Director of the Wuhan Rules & Research Institute, and Wang Hongbo, Sales Director of BYD’s New Business Division, signed the agreement on behalf of both parties.

During the discussion, the two sides conducted in-depth exchanges on topics such as the development prospects of battery-powered ships, shore-based charging and swapping infrastructure construction, safety testing and certification of new power batteries for marine use, development of intelligent shore-based charging monitoring systems, and formulation of technical standards, all under the context of the “dual-carbon” strategy and the clean energy transition in ship propulsion. Both parties agreed that battery-powered vessels are a core vehicle for the high-quality development of green water transport in China, requiring multi-party collaboration across the industry. Taking this agreement as an opportunity, the two sides will deepen cooperation in areas such as the construction of battery thermal safety laboratories, R&D of new power batteries, safety testing and verification, technological innovation in system integration, and improvement of rules and standards, aiming to achieve complementary advantages and high-level synergy to jointly support the high-quality integrated development of energy and shipping.

In the future, CCS will continue to thoroughly implement the “Two New” policies, leverage its role as the main force in ship inspection, further advance the R&D of key technologies for battery-powered vessels, safeguard the safety of such vessels, support the sustainable and healthy development of the industry, and contribute wisdom and strength to accelerating the building of a strong transportation nation.
