The CMI Qingdao shipyard, formerly known as Qingdao Yangfan and recently acquired by China Merchants Group, delivered the conventionally propelled 6,014 TEU container ship Greenhouse.
“After six vessels for CMB and CMA CGM, and the Phoebe for Danaos, this new ship is the second of three Maric 5980 type designs that Danaos is scheduled to receive from the Chinese shipyard in Qingdao,” said Alphaliner.
“The new Greenhouse has a beam of 42.80 meters (17 rows) but is only 240.00 meters long. This ultra-compact vessel type achieves a commercial speed of 20 knots and supplies power for up to 1,150 refrigerated containers,” it added.
The unit is propelled by a de-rated MAN B&W 6G80ME-C10.5-HPSCR-TIII engine, which delivers 23,000 kW and has been designed to facilitate a future transition to using ammonia as fuel.
Danaos has assigned its two Maric 5980 type vessels to Ocean Network Express (ONE) and the Greenhouse will begin its career in the joint China – India service of ONE (NCI), TS Lines, Evergreen and Unifeeder.
Another Danaos vessel of the same Maric 5980 type, whose delivery is scheduled for August 2028, has already secured a forward charter contract with Hapag-Lloyd.
