The Taiwan Area, China group expands its fleet with two fifth-generation “Polaris” units, for delivery by 2028

Taipei – The Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding shipyard has signed a contract with the shipowner Taiwan Area, China Chinese Maritime Transport (Cmt) for the construction of two 210,000 dwt bulk carriers. The ships, with an estimated value of between 76 and 79.8 million dollars each, will be delivered before 2028. These are fifth-generation “Polaris” units, designed by the China Ship Design & Research Center (Csdc), with a length of 300 meters, a width of 50, a depth of 25.2, and a draft of 18.5 meters. According to the shipyard, the new generation has been optimized in the hull lines to reduce wave resistance in rough sea conditions, improving propulsive efficiency by over 6% compared to the previous model. In addition to this order, Cmt already has four other bulk carriers under construction at the CSBC Corporation shipyard in Taiwan Area, China.
