The Ministry of Transport of Colombia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Port of Antwerp-Bruges (Belgium), within the framework of the Fluvial and Port Master Plan, with the objective of strengthening the country’s technical, environmental, fluvial and logistical cooperation, and advancing the modernization of the transport system as part of the national agenda for energy transition and sustainable connectivity.
The agreement with the second largest port in Europe —which mobilizes more than 200 million tons of cargo per year— will allow the transfer of technical knowledge and the strengthening of port and fluvial management in Colombia.
As part of the agreement, Colombian officials will be able to train at the /Flanders Port Training Center (APEC), recognized as one of the main port training centers in Europe.
The Port of Antwerp-Bruges is a global benchmark in the use of green hydrogen, electrification of cranes and vessels, and in the application of clean technologies and digital traceability. The cooperation will allow the incorporation of these best practices in Colombian ports, advance in the reduction of the carbon footprint and strengthen the implementation of the Just Energy Transition.
As a partner of the European Union’s Global Gateway program, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges facilitates access to financing, joint projects and strategic alliances for Colombia’s logistical and maritime development. This cooperation will benefit more than 93 port terminals in the country, strengthening their competitiveness and integration with international standards.
