On May 8, Guangxi Pi Shipbuilding Technology Development Co., Ltd. successfully acquired a plot on the west side of the planned Jingjiang Avenue in the Nanning Liujing Industrial Park, which is planned to be the first phase of the Nanning base. This land acquisition marks the official acceleration of the base construction.
The base is jointly invested and constructed by Qinshi Group and Pinglu Canal Group, and is positioned as a modern new energy ship intelligent manufacturing base integrating hull construction, outfitting, and painting. This land acquisition is for the first phase of the Nanning base project, covering an area of 300 mu (20 hectares), with a reserved 150 mu for the second phase, providing ample space for long-term development. According to the plan, the first phase will feature 8 slipways, focusing on the construction of 5,000 to 8,000-ton inland river new energy ships, covering multiple green power sources such as LNG, methanol, electricity, and hydrogen. The project’s designed annual production capacity is 350,000 gross tons, with a full capacity of 70 ships of the 5,000-ton class.
This land acquisition is a key step for Pi Shipbuilding to deepen its presence in the inland river new energy赛道 and seize the strategic opportunity of the Pinglu Canal. In the next step, the company will accelerate the base construction and commence production in the fourth quarter of this year. Relying on the three pillars of green standard ship type research and development, high-quality intensive supply chain, and green intelligent manufacturing ecosystem, the Nanning base will be built into a model for the green development of world inland river shipping.
Pi Shipbuilding was established in July 2025, with its headquarters in Jiujiang, Jiangxi. It is an inland river shipbuilding enterprise jointly established by Qinshi Group and Xinyang Ship Marine, focusing on the research, development, and manufacturing of diverse new energy ship types including pure electric, methanol range-extended, LNG, and hydrogen. Currently, it focuses on the research and development of multiple mainstream inland river ship types ranging from 1,500 to 18,000 tons. Leveraging the resource advantages of its two major shareholders and adopting the “ship-port-waterway” integrated development model, the company implements the “Inland River First Port Strategy” across the country’s major water systems. It has already laid out the Jiujiang headquarters base (Yangtze River Basin), Harbin base (Songhua River – Heilongjiang River Basin), and Pinglu Canal base (Pinglu Canal and Pearl River Basin, including Nanning and Wenshan sub-bases), becoming the first new energy ship manufacturing enterprise in China to achieve cross-basin layout.
