On August 8th, Wuhu Shipyard held a smooth keel-laying ceremony for the fourth vessel, W2434, in the series of 50,000 DWT MR product tankers built for a UAE shipowner at Weihai Wuchuan. The shipowner’s resident manager Binod Kumar, ABS resident surveyor Wang Chengjie, and Weihai Wuchuan Deputy General Manager Tu Haifeng, along with other relevant leaders, attended the ceremony as witnesses.
The vessel has an overall length of 182.75 meters, a beam of 32.2 meters, a depth of 19.1 meters, and a designed deadweight of 50,000 tons. Its cargo hold design is particularly unique, equipped with 12 cargo oil tanks and 2 slop tanks. The ship features a raked bow, stern transom with a bulb, and semi-suspended rudder, effectively enhancing its navigation performance. Additionally, in response to China’s “dual-carbon” strategy, the power system consists of a MAN 6S50ME-C9.7-HPSCR engine and a scrubber, with provisions for carbon capture and methanol tanks, meeting stringent environmental requirements.
For a long time, Weihai Wuchuan has deeply implemented the “intelligent manufacturing leadership” strategy, vigorously promoting the transformation and upgrading of traditional shipbuilding toward intelligent, digital, and green directions. Leveraging the company’s advanced smart facilities and utilizing digital and automation technologies to optimize production processes, shipbuilding efficiency has been significantly improved.
Weihai Wuchuan consistently adheres to the “customer-centric” service philosophy, maintaining close and efficient communication with shipowners. Thanks to this seamless communication mechanism, the company accurately grasps shipowners’ needs and promptly adjusts construction plans, demonstrating Weihai Wuchuan’s strong capabilities and efficient execution in the shipbuilding field. This ensures the fourth tanker could commence construction at such a rapid pace.
The series of 50,000 DWT MR product tankers by Weihai Wuchuan adopts an excellent eco-friendly and carbon-reducing design concept. Currently, the fourth vessel has officially entered the construction phase. With forward-looking strategic planning and solid technical accumulation from the first three vessels, the construction cycle of the fourth will be significantly shortened. Weihai Wuchuan is confident in securing a more advantageous position in the future shipbuilding market, contributing more high-quality “Made in China with Intelligence” vessels to the global shipping industry.
