Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), held the naming ceremony for the second 8,600 CEU dual-fuel PCTC type vessel built for South Korea’s Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM). The new vessel was named Glovis Topaz.
Glovis Topaz has a length of 200 meters, a beam of 38 meters, a design draft of 9.2 meters, and a projected speed of 19 knots. It is equipped with a dual-fuel propulsion system, complies with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III emission standards, and is characterized as being environmentally friendly, energy-efficient, safe, and reliable.
The vessel incorporates an advanced intelligent system that enables the digital management of navigation, engine room, cargo, and other systems, enhancing operational efficiency and safety. Furthermore, it includes energy-saving and emission-reduction technologies, such as an optimized hull design, propeller caps, and main engine exhaust gas waste heat recovery systems.
Upon delivery, the vessel will be operated by Glovis Logistics. The shipowner, HMM, is the largest shipping company in South Korea, while Glovis Logistics leads the country’s logistics and transport sector. This strategic collaboration between the two companies in the shipbuilding order with GSI demonstrates the strong market competitiveness and technical capability of the Chinese shipyard.
