China News Service, Guangzhou, June 19 (Reporter Guo Jun) According to news from CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Huangpu Wenchong”), on June 18, the company, in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd., successfully signed contracts with three domestic and international shipowners, securing orders for the construction of 13 container ships of 5,000 TEU and above, including three 5,300 TEU container ships, four 6,200 TEU container ships, and six 6,400 TEU container ships.

Currently, the global container ship market is entering a renewal cycle, with demand for low-carbon compliance continuing to rise. This batch signing of multiple ship types marks another major market breakthrough for Huangpu Wenchong in seizing the opportunity of the global shipping industry’s green transformation, further solidifying its core competitiveness in the global container ship construction market.

The 5,300 TEU vessel is a benchmark product of Huangpu Wenchong’s independently developed “Honghu” series of medium-sized container ships, with an overall length of 235 meters, a beam of 37.5 meters, and a deadweight tonnage of approximately 71,500 tons. Through multiple rounds of hull form optimization, integrated design of efficient propellers, rudders, and energy-saving devices, as well as meticulous overall layout planning, the ship type exhibits excellent container loading efficiency and fuel economy.

The 6,200 TEU container ship is designed by the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute, while the 6,400 TEU container ship is developed by the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation 708 Research Institute. Leveraging the technological expertise of China’s two top-tier ship design institutes, these two ship types can accommodate diverse operational needs of customers. Both ship types meet the International Maritime Organization’s Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase 3 standards. Through refined hull form optimization, they feature outstanding advantages of low fuel consumption and low carbon emissions, precisely matching the operational requirements of various shipping routes.

As of now, Huangpu Wenchong has secured a total of 39 orders for medium-sized container ships of 5,000 TEU and above, establishing a significant scaled construction advantage in the global medium-sized container ship track. (End)
