In the context of its transformation plan, the German rail group DB Cargo, majority shareholder of Transfesa Logistics, has agreed to the sale of some of its activities to Boluda Shipping. This operation aims to concentrate and reinforce the activities of the Spanish subsidiary of DB Cargo in the automotive sector and in the international transport of goods between the Iberian Peninsula and the rest of Europe. The operation is expected to be finalized before the end of 2025.

The rest of the businesses related to the transport of goods by rail in the Iberian Peninsula and the maintenance activities and shunting and terminal services will be taken over by Boluda Shipping, one of the leaders in global maritime transport services, with a presence in Europe, the west coast of Africa, Cape Verde, the Indian Ocean, and Latin America. This transaction is subject to the necessary approvals from the relevant regulatory and corporate bodies.

In the words of Idoia Galindo, general director of the Transfesa Group, “This operation guarantees the continuity and growth of all the activities that Transfesa has been carrying out in Spain until now, which will now be segmented under the umbrella of two large business groups: DB Cargo and Boluda Shipping. The agreements reached create new opportunities for sustainable development and the improvement of customer services.”

Green Corridors

“With these steps, we are creating clearer growth perspectives for our subsidiary in Spain, in line with the strategy of DB Cargo AG,” states Martina Niemann, CFO of DB Cargo AG. “For us, it was crucial to find a reliable partner, like Boluda Shipping, to guarantee the stability and continuity of the activities that are no longer part of the DB group.”

According to Ignacio Boluda, executive president of Boluda Shipping, “with this operation, we reinforce our customer services with more sustainable door-to-door logistics solutions, promoting green corridors and encouraging the creation of decarbonized supply chains.” “Furthermore,” he continues, “it is a pride to add the talent and experience of the Transfesa workforce to our team so that together we can build the best value proposition in the market.” This operation will also allow for the reinforcement of the role of rail, contributing to the growth of its market share in Spain and encouraging the development of more sustainable transport.
