Salvatore Deidda, deputy of Fratelli d’Italia and president of the IX Commission on Transport, Post, and Telecommunications, believes in the return to ferry construction in Italy, specifically in Sardinia.

“A concrete example of potential development is the port of Porto Torres,” he said. “It would be optimal to establish a shipyard there for the construction of new Ro-Pax ferries for freight transport. These would then be granted to operators through a public tender, subsequently transforming the facility into a strategic hub for docking and maintenance. Obviously, the realization of this and other projects will be carried out in close collaboration and involvement with the Sardinia Region and all other local and competent institutions.”

The Fratelli d’Italia exponent expressed this thought while speaking at a debate on freight transport at the opening of the Artichoke Festival in Villasor. “I spoke,” he wrote in a post, “together with the representative of the Italian-French Chamber of Commerce and the representatives of Coldiretti and Confagricoltura, the Mayor of Villasor, and my colleague Michele Cossa. In my speech,” he summarized, “I emphasized how previous Governments ignored, if not even indulged, the Euro-madness of the ETS (Emissions Trading System). This tax has generated unsustainable price increases in maritime and air transport, severely impacting the island’s economy.”

Deidda added that “since the beginning of our mandate, as the Government and the Chamber of Deputies, we have been strongly requesting that the islands be excluded or that the application of the ETS be suspended, at least until 2030 or until the renewal of naval fleets with low environmental impact vehicles is completed. Not only that. We are also requesting that Sardinia finally be granted the rules provided for the Outermost Regions and that it be allocated the necessary funds to enhance and create internal connections, as well as to improve port and transport infrastructure.”
