Seaspan Corporation has partnered with Iceland-based Ankeri Solutions to roll out its digital platform across the world’s largest independent container fleet. The move brings chartering contracts and emissions reporting into a single system while signaling a stronger push for data-driven operations in container shipping.
Seaspan Corporation, the world’s largest independent charter owner and operator of containerships, has entered a strategic partnership with Ankeri Solutions to bring the Icelandic firm’s cloud-based platform into its global operation. The agreement follows a successful trial and puts Seaspan among more than a dozen container shipping leaders already using the software.
The adoption comes at a time when digital tools are increasingly seen as essential for managing the growing complexity of commercial, technical, and regulatory requirements in shipping. With 187 containerships and two car carriers in operation, Seaspan plans to use the Ankeri platform to digitalise and automate chartering contracts, streamline EU Emission Trading Scheme reporting, and consolidate data into a single, collaborative interface.
Peter Jackson, Chief Technology Officer at Seaspan, said the decision reflects a focus on efficiency and compliance. “At Seaspan, we are always investing and innovating to elevate customer engagement and deliver value for our global clients. This means our teams need efficient and effective tools to optimise commercial and technical operations and to assist with regulatory compliance. Ankeri’s industry-leading applications fully support our digital ambitions, driving enhanced performance across our fleet and underpinning our ability to scale.”
For Ankeri, the partnership represents a deepening foothold in the container sector. The company has worked with liner operator Hapag-Lloyd for eight years and also provides solutions to Global Ship Lease and Ernst Russ. Its software is designed to help shipping companies collect, manage, and analyse fleet data to improve efficiency, reduce emissions, and enhance collaboration across stakeholders.
Kristinn Aspelund, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Ankeri, welcomed Seaspan to the platform. “We are thrilled to welcome Seaspan to the growing list of container clients turning to our scaleable software platform to realise their digitalisation goals. Working alongside Seaspan to optimise efficiency, automation and environmental accounting, we are confident we can jointly push digital boundaries and leverage data to drive strong results.”
The collaboration comes as container shipping faces mounting regulatory pressure and rising customer expectations for transparency. By using a digital system that integrates commercial and environmental data, Seaspan positions itself to respond more quickly to market shifts while meeting compliance demands. For an industry that still relies heavily on manual workflows, the move underscores how large operators are reshaping daily operations with digital tools that promise to make shipping cleaner, faster, and more transparent.
