The dredger Galileo Galilei, one of the most modern in the world, with a tank capacity of 18,000 m³, arrives in Itapoá (SC) this Friday (03).

Upon its arrival, the company Jan De Nul will complete the necessary technical and operational mobilization this weekend to begin the dredging and beach widening works in the city.

The study and project development phases have already been completed and approved. The entire technical team and equipment are mobilized, but the start of dredging still depends on the final authorization from the competent authorities.

In September, excavators, tractors, and other land machinery, in addition to the specialized team, were moved to the construction site. This preparatory phase included the assembly of the pipeline on the beach, the structure responsible for transporting the dredged sand to the coastal strip, an essential condition for the beach recovery.

The methodology follows the standard of other high-impact projects in the country, such as the widening of the beaches of Balneário Camboriú (SC) and Matinhos (PR), which also involved the work of the Galileo Galilei.

After authorization, the preparation of the pipeline will be completed, and in about ten days, dredging will begin in the port’s external channel, a stage that will enable the deposit of sand on the coast and the consequent widening of Itapoá beach.
