Ellerman City Liners, part of GB Global, announced the acquisition of Viasea Shipping from ColliCare Holding AS, a Norwegian-owned short sea shipping operator.
Founded in 2016, Viasea has established itself as an innovative company in the short sea shipping market, operating regular routes between the UK, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, and Lithuania.
“Ellerman City Liners, with its long history of excellence in UK shipping and supply chain logistics, considers this acquisition a key step to expand its presence in short sea shipping and enhance service resilience in difficult sea conditions,” it stated in a public declaration.
Peter Andrews, managing director of Ellerman City Liners, added that “we are excited about the opportunities this acquisition offers. It represents an important step in completing our European infrastructure puzzle and allows us to offer a truly comprehensive door-to-door service across Europe. By thinking differently and pushing the boundaries of short sea shipping services, we can exceed customer expectations and provide smarter, more connected logistics solutions.”
The acquisition will provide expanded short sea shipping coverage in major European ports, green alternative transport solutions to reduce dependence on road freight transport, and integrated rail services connecting Poland, Hungary, and Romania, supporting multimodal logistics and enhanced inland connectivity.
