The Taiwanese shipping line Evergreen Marine, which already has 35 mainline vessels on order, is reportedly considering a new push for ship construction in the 14,000 to 15,000 TEU range.
In addition to its regional fleet, the company’s orderbook includes eleven LNG-powered megamax units (5 built by CSSC and 6 by Hanwha) and 24 methanol-fueled 16,500 TEU vessels (8 built by Imabari and 16 by Samsung), according to Alphaliner.
“The 15,000 TEU units would likely be compact NPX-type vessels of the 335 x 51 class, with methanol or LNG propulsion. So far, the project is believed to be in its early stages,” the consultancy stated.
Most recently, Evergreen received the final container ships that mark the completion of two shipbuilding cycles. These are the final units of the megamax series, ordered from Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, and the maxi-neopanamax series, built by Samsung Heavy Industries.
