ExxonMobil to enhance Mobil Serv cylinder condition monitoring service

Must read

ExxonMobil is partnering with Palantir Technologies to add new features to its Mobil Serv cylinder condition monitoring service
The partnership combines ExxonMobil’s engine lubrication expertise with Palantir’s digital platform and analytics to deliver insights into vessel operations and protect engine components from premature wear.

Mobil Serv cylinder condition monitoring was introduced in 2018 and offers detailed engine data that can identify issues such as under- and over-lubrication, component wear and the presence of cat fines.

ExxonMobil said the improvements are derived from the company’s patented technology and library of onboard test results, which contains more than 750,000 data points.

Palantir Technologies’ Foundry platform will enable complete integration and advanced analysis of these records, enabling more accurate engine benchmarking capabilities for operators seeking to measure their engines’ performance against similar models across a range of operating conditions, while enabling broader organisational benefits such as trend analysis across entire fleets and similar vessels. Subscribers will also gain access to extensive, detailed data sets.

ExxonMobil global marine technology programme manager Ioannis Chatzakis commented, “The collaboration will Palantir Technologies has allowed us to significantly enhance the power, precision and speed of our Mobil Serv cylinder condition monitoring solution. We can now fully leverage the big data we have gathered in our experience to develop and deploy even more powerful data-based insights, when and where they’re needed.”

With Palantir Foundry, ExxonMobil expects to be able to use a greater range of historical data to generate insights and provide recommendations to fleet managers.

Fleet managers can in turn understand how the performance of their vessels compares to that of any other vessel in ExxonMobil’s database in a fully anonymous way.

“Our Foundry platform closes the loop between analytics and operations, empowering decision-making. Organisations around the world use our tools to help them do their most important work,” said Palantir head of energy and natural resources, Matthew Babin.

“Working with an organisation like ExxonMobil at massive scale, for an industry as critical as global maritime shipping, is what we built Foundry to do.”
